    N70 Hilux (2005-2015 KUN) Parts & Suspension

This is the impartial N70 Hilux hub. We fit lift kits, suspension and accessories to the 2005-2015 KUN Hilux in our Perth workshop every week, on hoists, with qualified fitters, so the advice here comes from getting it right on real trucks. Across the page we compare the brands PPD actually stocks for the N70, Superior Engineering, PSR, CalOffroad, Bilstein and Tough Dog, and route you to the right setup by load, lift height and budget rather than pushing one brand. Chasing Toyota Hilux parts for a different generation? We stock other series too, so use the sibling links further down to jump to the correct hub for your truck. If you know your year and engine already, jump to the lift-kit section and confirm the part with us before you order.

What Is an N70 Hilux and Which Years Does It Cover?

N70 is Toyota's chassis designation for the seventh-generation Hilux sold in Australia from 2005 to 2015. You'll also see the KUN code, which refers specifically to the 3.0L 1KD-FTV turbo-diesel models (KUN26 in 4x4 form). The same generation ran two petrol options too, the 2.7L four-cylinder and the 4.0L 1GR-FE V6.

So when someone says "N70 Hilux" they mean the 2005-2015 truck, before the N80 (GUN) generation that arrived from mid-2015 with the 2.8L 1GD-FTV. Getting the series right matters because suspension and lift kits are chassis-specific, an N70 kit will not fit an N80. If your truck is a 2015-2019 model, head to our GUN (2015-2019) Hilux parts hub instead.

What Parts Can You Get for an N70 Hilux?

This page covers the full N70 parts catalogue, not just suspension. The categories we stock and fit for the 2005-2015 KUN include:

    • Lift kits and suspension from 2-inch through 4-inch, in monotube, foam cell and remote-reservoir designs.
    • Front protection, including PSR Ambush bullbars for the N70 (confirm your build year with us, as bullbar fitment can vary across the 2005-2015 span), plus Hilux bullbars and protection.
    • Underbody protection, bash plates, rock sliders and rated recovery points.
    • Roof and tub racks and rooftop tents for touring builds.
    • Exhaust systems, browse our Hilux exhaust systems for the 3.0L diesel.
    • Seat covers and interior protection for work utes.

If you run a 3.0L diesel that sees dust and water, intake and exhaust upgrades usually come first, then suspension to carry the gear. Touring builds tend to lead with the lift kit and racks.

Which Lift Kit Suits an N70 Hilux?

The N70 takes everything from a mild 2-inch lift to a serious 4-inch (100mm) kit. The right height depends on what you're doing with the truck, not what looks toughest in the carpark. Browse the full range of Hilux lift kits and match it to the guidance below.

    • 2-inch (around 40-50mm): the sweet spot for most touring and daily-driven N70s. Clears 31-32inch tyres, keeps geometry sensible and rides well loaded or unloaded.
    • 3-inch: more clearance and a taller stance for heavier touring loads and bigger tyres, usually needs supporting components to keep CV and steering angles in check.
    • 4-inch (100mm): the serious offroad height. The Superior Monotube IFP 2.0 4-inch kit for the 3.0L diesel and the matching petrol 2.7/4.0L version are built for 33s and rough work, and a 4-inch lift will generally need engineering certification.

N70 Suspension Brands Compared: Superior, PSR, CalOffroad, Bilstein,

Here's the honest cross-brand rundown for the N70, by load rating, ride character and lift range. This is the part the single-brand sites won't give you.

    BrandDesignRide characterBest for
Superior EngineeringMonotube IFP & remote reservoirControlled, fade-resistant, firmer at full lift2-4 inch builds wanting heat control and high-lift options
PSRMatched suspension packagesBalanced, set up for laden touringLoaded tourers and work utes wanting a sorted package
CalOffroadFoam cell & adjustableCompliant, tunable to loadTourers chasing comfort with load flexibility
BilsteinMonotube gasFirm, sporty, excellent on-road controlMild-lift daily drivers prioritising road feel
Tough DogFoam cell & adjustableFirmer, strong load capacity, valueHeavy GVM loads accepting a firmer unloaded ride

Superior's Monotube IFP runs an internal floating piston that separates oil and gas, so it resists fade on long corrugated runs and suits the taller 4-inch builds, including the remote-reservoir version for the hardest work. For touring with a load, a PSR package or CalOffroad foam cell gives you compliance you can tune to weight. Bilstein monotubes shine on a mild-lift, mostly-road N70 where you want sharp control. Tough Dog foam cell is the firmer, more affordable, load-focused option. See the full CalOffroad suspension upgrades for Hilux if comfort-led touring is your priority.

Comfort Touring vs Heavy Load vs Hardcore Offroad: Which N70 Setup?

    • Comfort touring (light to medium load): 2-inch CalOffroad foam cell or Bilstein, keeps the ride sensible and clears 31-32s.
    • Heavy load / full GVM tourer: PSR package or Tough Dog, set up for constant weight, accept a firmer unloaded ride.
    • Hardcore offroad: Superior Monotube IFP or remote reservoir at 3-4 inch, built for heat, articulation and 33s.

    N70 Hilux FAQ

What year is a N70 Hilux?

The N70 Hilux was sold in Australia from 2005 to 2015. It's the seventh-generation Hilux, and the KUN code within that generation refers to the 3.0L 1KD-FTV turbo-diesel models. From mid-2015 the N80 (GUN) generation replaced it.

Is the N70 or N80 better?

Different trucks for different buyers. The N70 (2005-2015) runs the proven 3.0L 1KD-FTV diesel and 2.7/4.0L petrols and is cheaper to buy and modify. The N80 (2015 on) has the newer 2.8L engine, better on-road manners and updated electronics. For a budget-friendly, easy-to-build tourer the N70 is hard to beat. Lift kits don't cross over between them.

What is the best lift kit for a Hilux?

There's no single best, it depends on use. For most N70 tourers a 2-inch kit clears 31-32inch tyres and rides well. For heavy GVM loads, a PSR or Tough Dog package handles constant weight. For serious offroad and 33s, a Superior Monotube IFP or remote-reservoir 4-inch kit is the pick. Tell us your load and driving and we'll match the kit.

    Is a 2-inch lift illegal?

Not generally. In most Australian states a modest lift within the allowed limit is fine, but rules vary by state and combine body and suspension lift totals. Larger lifts and bigger tyres often require engineering certification. Always check your state's requirements and get certification where needed, we can point you in the right direction.

    Can I fit 33s with a 2-inch lift on an N70?

It's tight. A 2-inch lift comfortably suits 31-32inch tyres on the N70; 33s usually need additional clearance work or a taller lift to avoid rubbing on lock and articulation. If 33s are the goal, a 3-4 inch kit is the cleaner path. Talk to us about your exact wheel and tyre combo first.

Fitment, Legality and Getting It Right on Your N70

The N70 KUN spans 2005 to 2015 with diesel and petrol variants, and the correct lift kit, bullbar and accessories differ across them, so confirm the right part with us before you buy rather than guessing. Lift height affects tyre clearance, GVM and driveline angles, and anything beyond a mild lift typically needs sign-off from a qualified engineer for certification. We don't give legal guarantees, we get your fitment correct and refer you to the right engineer for certification.

If your truck is actually a 2015-2019 model, you want our GUN (2015-2019) Hilux parts hub instead. Send us your build plate details and intended load, and we'll spec the series-correct setup and fit it in our Perth workshop.
